NVIDIA Releases Security Updates for Legacy GTX 700, 900, and 10 Series

NVIDIA legacy GPU security updates. NVIDIA has made available the GeForce Security Update Driver 582.78 WHQL, a package dedicated to graphics cards based on the Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta architectures, namely the GeForce GTX 700, GTX 900, and GTX 10 families.

The release occurred on September 30 and is downloadable from the company’s official website for 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11. This driver is not intended to improve video game performance but represents a maintenance intervention aimed at correcting vulnerabilities listed in the September security bulletin.

NVIDIA legacy GPU security updates: why it matters

The reason for this unexpected update lies in the support calendar defined by NVIDIA. The company indeed discontinued the Game Ready channel for Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta in October 2025, after announcing in July of the same year that driver series 580 would be the last to support such GPUs.

From that moment, the cards moved to a regime of quarterly security updates, which will continue until October 2028. The 582.78 is therefore the third update of this type, following versions 582.28 in January and 582.66 in summer 2026.

The September 2026 bulletin lists a total of 114 vulnerabilities across display drivers and vGPU software, including 76 high-severity and 37 medium-severity issues. It is important to note that the total refers to the entire bulletin: each flaw has a specific list of affected products, so not all vulnerabilities concern older GeForce cards.

Among the cited cases is CVE-2026-47600, which indicates versions prior to 582.78 as vulnerable. Typical risks associated with these flaws include unauthorized code execution, privilege escalation, data tampering, denial of service, and information disclosure.

What changes and what are the effects

In the release notes, NVIDIA explains that the update “resolves issues that can lead to multiple security impacts,” without specifying fixes related to game bugs or generic issues.

The list of supported products includes on the desktop side GTX 745, GTX 750, and 750 Ti, the entire series from GTX 950 to GTX 980 Ti, Pascal models from GT 1010 and GT 1030 up to GTX 1080 Ti, as well as TITAN V, TITAN Xp, TITAN X, and GTX TITAN X. Laptops with GTX 900M, GTX 10 mobile, and MX110-MX350 chips are also covered.

The file weighs approximately 912 MB. For those still using a PC with one of these cards, installation remains advisable, especially if the machine is connected to the Internet: game performance will not change, but the attack surface is reduced. The next quarterly update is scheduled subject to changes.
