Hardware Ready Ready to Bench?
Netflix has expanded its catalog with a new television series titled Below, which tells the story of a mysterious and terrifying marine creature that threatens a coastal community. The plot follows the experiences of a fisherman dedicated to protecting his family and the traditional lifestyle of his town.
The production chose not to use post-production special effects, opting instead for direct filming in the ocean off Newfoundland to ensure authenticity in the imagery. The lead actor, Harnett, told Tudum that he read the first two screenplays in less than an hour, appreciating their style and originality: “I read the first two scripts very quickly, in under an hour,” he stated. “The style was so clear, the idea so compelling, and the character fantastic. I had never read anything like it before”.
Charlie Heaton shared that while he worked extensively on real locations for the series Stranger Things, he had never been out in open water as during the filming of Below: “We were at sea with the Coast Guard, aboard these vessels, and I was literally kayaking in the ocean,” he explained. “I worked a lot on real locations for Stranger Things, but I had never been out in open water like that, which is crazy”.
